Daytona Beachfront, A Sunny Attraction
Daytona Beach has long been known as a family-friendly vacation spot. This small Florida city looks out over the waters of the Atlantic and boasts miles of hard-packed beaches that are perfect for motorized sports.
The city started with a hotel that was built by Mathias Day, Jr., in 1871. The town grew around the hotel and today the full-time population stands at 64,000. During the summer season the population more than doubles as tourists flock to the city for its beaches, restaurants and shopping.
A number of special events are held in Daytona Beach each year. The most famous of these is the Daytona 500, which kicks off NASCAR season each February. Other racing events held at the Daytona Beach Speedway include the NASCAR Coke Zero 400 and the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. Bike Week and Biketoberfest are also held in Daytona Beach.
There is much more to see and do in Daytona Beach than just visit the speedway. First, of course, is the beach itself, which is famous for its quality. Surfing is a popular activity. Other popular water sports include jet boat rides, parasailing and kayaking. Riverboat excursions and deep sea fishing trips are also available. Visitors can also go skydiving or ride in a hot air balloon.
There are many more family-friendly activities available, including mini-golf, go-karts and laser tag. A number of concerts are held throughout the year. History buffs can spend several days exploring the area’s many historical attractions.
Daytona Beach has several great shopping centers that include both department stores and tiny boutiques. The Downtown Historic District and the Bellair Plaza Shopping Center are two of the most popular shopping districts.
There are many dining options to choose from in Daytona Beach, including five-star restaurants. Some of the more highly-rated restaurants are The Cellar, Bombay Grille, Anna’s Italian Trattoria, Tia Cori’s Tacos and the Cracked Egg Diner.
All kinds of accommodations can be found in Daytona Beach. There are many resorts and hotels available, of course, but there are also several bed and breakfast establishments. There are multiple campgrounds and RV parks just outside the city.
